While the finance industry on Wall St is imploding, New Zealand’s leading
general insurer is bucking the market and looking to hire new staff.
Vero New Zealand, which provides insurance products and services to help
protect businesses and individuals against financial hardship arising from loss,
liability or damage, is seeking to expand its operations across the country.
Alison Shackell, executive general manager people & development for Vero,
said that for the last four years, Vero held a top five spot in the Large
Organisations category of the unlimited/JRA Best Places to Work in New Zealand
survey.
“By consistently raising level of workplace climate and employee engagement,
Vero proves that its staff satisfaction continues to increase and it builds a
strong culture that benefits customers,” Ms Shackell Said.
“This valued feedback enables the company to continue with its vision to
build a world-class workplace.”
Vero is exhibiting in the JRA Great
Places to Work pavilion at this weekend’s New Zealand Herald Your Career Expo,
to be held at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.
With 850 employees, Vero is a large organisation with a small business
feel.
“We really take care of our staff,” Ms Shackell said.
“All policies and practices at Vero are characterized by a work-life balance,
ensuring a perfect fit between the personal and professional lives of our staff.
A wide range of financial and non-financial employee benefits enhances this
balance by encouraging and recognizing the activities undertaken by our staff
outside of work hours.”
Vero promotes transparency and open communication throughout all levels of
the organisation.
“Every employee is informed and aware of what direction the company is going
at all times,” Ms Shackell said.
“Leaving no stone unturned, Vero Chief Executive Roger Bell hit the road
regularly to visit all Vero staff members around the country, sharing his
thoughts on the future of the company of the company and listening to staff
comments and concerns.”

850 employees. Young staff members departing on their OE can take a career break
and return to find their job waiting for them to apply their newly gained
experience. Flexi-time options and paid study leave enable employees to find the
best work solution to suit their situation.
“Work opportunities at Vero are varied and virtually limitless,” Ms Shackell
said.
“We could use your insurance experience in underwriting or claims, your
administration and customer service skills in our call centre or customer
service areas, or maybe your finance and accounting skills in our finance team.
Whatever you business background, there is a place for you
here.”
